Independent Living

The ability to have as much control as possible over where you live, who you live with, how you live, where you work, and how you spend your time is known as independent living. It entails engaging in local life and following interests of your own.

Personal Care

Support for carrying out daily tasks and assistance in staying in their communities and houses. Personal care services include things like showering, getting dressed, doing basic housework, cooking, and traveling.

Respite Care

Provides short-term relief for primary caregivers, giving them time to rest, travel, or spend time with other family and friends.

Companion Services

Provides care for an older adult or disabled younger person by providing “fellowship,” which means engaging them in social, physical or mental activities, and “protection,” which means monitoring their safety inside and outside of the home.

Payment Options

Medicaid

A joint federal and state program that helps cover medical costs for some people with limited income and resources.

Private Pay

Term used to designate patients whose care is not paid for by government funding. Private pay can refer to either an individual paying for services directly or, in the case of a patient with commercial insurance, having to pay a portion of the costs out of pocket. Can also include pay covered by family.

Insurance

A legal right to compensation or reimbursement for medical expenses, usually as a result of an agreement with a health insurance provider. Important financial protection is offered by health insurance in the event of an illness.

VA

You may be eligible for VA health care benefits if you served in the active military, naval, or air service and didn’t receive a dishonorable discharge.
